The European Commission validated RASFF notification 2026.9542 on 27 October 2026 concerning primary aromatic amines in a kitchen utensil set from China, shipped via Germany.
In the ladle and spatula tested, 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane exceeded the limit by more than 5,000 times (19,500 ± 5,800 µg/l and 15,700 ± 4,700 µg/l against 2 µg/l), while 2,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane, aniline and 2-chloroaniline exceeded it by more than 50 times (730 ± 223 µg/l and 775 ± 237 µg/l against 10 µg/l). Samples were taken on 3 August 2026.
Germany withdrew the product from the market and recalled it from consumers. The set was distributed to Croatia and 13 other countries, and Croatia is asked to follow up. For more information, see the Croatian Food and Veterinary Agency (hapih.hr).
