palm sugar Royal Orient · 1,0 kg, plastic screw-top jar with red lid and label band

The EU RASFF system (notification 2026.6584, validated on 24 July 2026) warns about palm sugar from the Netherlands, packed in a 1.0 kg plastic screw-top jar with a red lid and a label band.

The product contains the undeclared allergen sulfur dioxide (E220), and the measured content is 110 ± 24 mg/kg against a maximum permitted level of 40 mg/kg. The risk is serious because sulfur dioxide can cause reactions in people sensitive to sulfites. The sample was taken on 2 July 2026.

The product was distributed to Croatia, where a consumer recall and a public warning were carried out. The Netherlands withdrew the product from the market and issued a public warning; Ireland, Finland and Croatia recalled it from consumers.

Consumers should not use the product and should return it to the shop where it was bought. More information is available from RASFF and the Croatian State Inspectorate.
