The EU RASFF system published an alert notification on 26 August 2026 (reference 2026.7533) concerning Listeria monocytogenes in halloumi cheese from Cyprus. The notification was submitted by Germany, and the product was distributed to several EU countries including Croatia, where follow-up is under way.

The product comes in vacuum film packaging, weighs 650 g and carries best-before dates MHD: 30.06.2027 and MHD: 31.10.2027. A sample taken on 3 August 2026 showed 97 CFU/g of Listeria monocytogenes. The risk is considered serious.

Germany and Luxembourg have withdrawn the product from recipients and from the market. Consumers are advised not to eat the affected products and to return them to the shop where they were bought.
