The European Commission, through the RASFF system (notification 2026.5922, validated on 3 July 2026), has published a recall of ground green tea, matcha powder, originating from China and shipped via the Netherlands.
The sample was deemed unsafe for consumption because of its high aluminium content of 1896 ± 455 mg/kg. The product is packed in an aluminium can with a snap-on lid and a printed adhesive label, with an aluminium pouch inside, net weight 80.0 g.
The notification was made by Germany, and the product was distributed to Croatia and a number of other countries; Croatia has been asked to follow up. Consumer recalls have been carried out in several countries, including Croatia, Slovenia, Denmark, Finland, Greece and Hungary.
