On 21 May 2026 the European Commission validated RASFF notification 2026.4510 concerning green tea originating from China and shipped via the Netherlands. The notification is classified as an information notification for attention with a potential risk and was notified by Germany.

The sample was tested for pesticide residues. The analysis revealed a thiamethoxam content of 0.23 ± 0.12 mg/kg, while the maximum permitted level for thiamethoxam in dried leaves, stems and flowers, fermented or otherwise processed, in teas is 0.05 mg/kg. This limit has been exceeded even when taking measurement uncertainty into account. The product is green tea in a green cube-shaped cardboard pack with oriental patterns and characters, 250 g, labelling: Art.Nr.: 16164.

The product was distributed to Croatia and 16 other countries, and the notification is addressed to Croatia for its attention. In Germany a public warning (press release) was issued, and in Germany, Denmark and Greece no stock remains on the market. Germany informed the recipient(s), and Croatia reported the outcome of its investigations on 25 June 2026.
