The European Commission validated RASFF notification 2026.7478 on 24 August 2026 concerning the unauthorised use of glycerin (E 422) in liquid desserts for freezing originating from Spain.

The sample contained an average glycerin content of 54,950 ± 12,639 mg/l. For a 5-year-old child weighing 20 kg having a 150 ml serving, adverse therapeutic effects are expected if the concentration exceeds 33.3 g/l; this level is exceeded, with an exposure of 292 mg/kg body weight, so the glycerin content is considered a health hazard. The notification was made by Germany; the product originates from Spain and was distributed to Croatia and many other countries. Germany, Spain, Finland, Belgium and Luxembourg have taken recall or withdrawal measures; in Croatia a consumer recall is in place (meli-tehnologije.hr).

Consumers are advised not to consume the product and to return it to the shop where it was bought or contact the distributor.
