The European Commission validated RASFF notification 2026.4060 on 8 May 2026 concerning the unapproved substance carbofuran in limes from Brazil, shipped via the Netherlands. The product is described as bulk fruits in a cardboard box, weight 4.0 kg, stored chilled.

The sample taken on 22 April 2026 contained 0.023 mg/kg of carbofuran against a maximum permitted level of 0.01 mg/kg. The risk is classified as serious. The limes were distributed to Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland.

Belgium, Finland and Italy have carried out recalls from consumers, while the Netherlands imposed a sales ban and withdrawal from recipients. The notification was made by Belgium; Croatia is listed as a country where the product was distributed and which is to follow up.
