The European Commission validated RASFF notification 2026.8313 on 18 September 2026 concerning aflatoxin in shelled pistachios from Iran, shipped via the Netherlands. The alert was notified by Hungary and is classified as an alert notification with a serious risk decision.

Aflatoxin B1 and total aflatoxin levels exceeding the maximum permitted limits were found in the product during official control on the market. The pistachios were distributed to Belgium, Croatia, France, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Sweden; a company in Croatia is involved.

In Belgium a recall from consumers and a public warning via press releases were carried out (Tadal NV and OMA Trading). Croatia is listed for follow-up, and consumer information is published by HAPIH at hapih.hr.
