The European Commission published RASFF notification 2026.8008 on 10 September 2026 concerning migration of bisphenol A from tins of bamboo shoots in strips or slices, originating from China and shipped via the Netherlands.
The sample (taken on 28 July 2026) contained 265 ± 66 µg/kg of bisphenol A, against a maximum permitted level of 50 µg/kg. The product is a food contact material (packaging), and the risk is classified as a potential risk.
Germany withdrew the product from the market and informed the competent authorities, Denmark recalled it from consumers, and Spain returned the consignment to the consignor. The product was distributed to Croatia and around 20 other countries; Croatia has been asked to follow up.
